Bright Eyes Band + one times one

Bright Eyes band

the band

Bright Eyes basically consists of Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis, there are many wonderful contributors (including a fifteen piece band) and a great production team, but for all intents and purposes, Oberst is the spirit behind the music.

Oberst was born in Omaha and began recording his beloved confessional songs at the age of 13, then caught the eye of the indie scene at only 14 as singer and guitarist of the band Commander Venus. The Commander Venus members started their own record label, Saddle Creek, and later broke up while Oberst went on writing songs under "Bright Eyes" for said label.

A Collection of Songs was his debut release and included songs written from '95 to '97. It was followed by Letting off the Happiness which was recorded with producers Mike Mogis and Andy Lemaster and made it to number forty-seven on CMJ's chart and also features musical contributions from members of such critically acclaimed groups as Neutral Milk Hotel and Of Montreal. Soonafter, his EP Every Day and Every Night was released and this EP really helped Oberst make a significant mark in the musical world.

In 2000, Oberst reunited with producers Mogis and Lemaster to record Fevers and Mirrors at Dead Space Studios, owned and run by Lullaby for the Working Class' Mogis Brothers. As Oberst timely released albums, he became increasingly more focused and his tremendous talent became more evident.

In 2001 Bright Eyes released Oh Holy Fools with Son, Ambulance, and in 2002 he released the There is no Beginning to the Story EP and the full length, Lifted, the album that brought wide recognition that Oberst's balladry was a voice for this generation. His vinyl box set was released in 2003 and in April of 2004 Bright Eyes and Neva Dinova released the EP, One Jug of Wine, Two Vessels.

His favorite musicians include Leonard Cohen and Neil Young, and in that tradition, Oberst delivers masterful balladry for a new generation. His songs also reflect his love for literature, as they are lyrically insightful and poetic as well as intensely honest.

His songwriting style, much like his wavering voice, is refreshingly unique and he craftfully incorporates western, folk, and indie-pop sounds into his mix.

Then he displays his more rockin' side when playing with his side project group, the Desaparecidos.
