Chixdiggit! Pink Razors

The latest release from the band is Pink Razors (Bad Taste Records,
2005)
and it’s nothing less than the ordinary. The Canadian band, based out
of
Calgary, have been at it for 14 long years, touring with big name
groups
like The Presidents Of The U.S.A., Social Distortion and Me First And
The
Gimme Gimmes.
Broken down, the band is KJ Jansen (lead vocals, lead guitar), Mike
Eggermont (vocals, bass), Mark O’Flaherty (vocals, guitar) and Jason
Hirsch
(drums).
The sounds of those aforementioned bands are meshed into self-nicknamed
C!.
There’s rolling, rough-and-tumble drumming, and screeching vocals along
with
some shrill guitar solos. It almost sounds like New Found Glory in the
voice
and The Ataris in the music. And, as is typical with a punk band, there
is a
song featured ("Get Down") that is less than a minute in length.
There’s the
call-and-answer bits, drumline solos and electric guitar fillers
between
stanzas to up the ante, too.
Pink Razors fits the punk mold -- fast drumming, fast guitars, fast
lyrics.
The album is aptly named in reference to a man moving in with a girl to
find
her pink razors everywhere; the added femininity to his life. And the
band
follows through, singing about relationships (online ones too, in
"Geocities
Kitty") and even themselves, singing, "You’re pretty good...we’re
awesome!"
which is sure to be the fans' favourite at each and every venue.
And then there’s those songs that almost seem to be half-truths, like
"J
Crew," where Jansen sings about a girl who models for different
clothing
companies he’s never heard of, and sees it as a sign they are from two
different worlds.
Expect to see C! around for a while. With punk standards seemingly
having
diehard bands play till it’s all over, like The Ramones, and with 14
years
already behind them, these guys aren’t about to stop anytime soon.
What else is there to say? Not all chicks may dig it, but those that do
(and
the boys too) will have a great time listening to this rapid,
relentless
punk rock, but obviously they’ll have to put the disc on loop a few
times if
they want to party to last over a half hour!
