Joe Patrick
Whiskey Drown
Joe Patrick’s debut solo EP, titled Whiskey Drown is a fresh and melodic look into not only the loneliness, and despair of the Midwest, but also a deep beauty brought about by the serenity of "Americana." His music is an exciting blend of Wilco, and Social Distortion (the best years, after Mommies Little Monster and before White Light, White Heat, White Trash).

Track listing:

01 Whiskey Drown
02 Memphis Blues
03 Crying Me to Sleep

Joe Patrick has a writing style that is heartfelt and original, there’s no need to fear over-produced, cookie-cutter Americana here. In fact, this EP was put together in "simple terms," to quote joepatricksmusic.com, with Patrick playing rhythm guitar and supplying the vocals, while Jimmy Powell brings a clean, strong beat on the drums for Memphis Blues, it’s Barry Poynter that plays drums on Whiskey Drown and Crying Me To Sleep, as well as playing lead guitar and bass on all three songs.

The first track, and the EP’s namesake, "Whiskey Drown" is a foot tapping drinking partner, perfect for drowning your own sorrows to. The second track is "Memphis Blues." In this song the lyrics evoke a House Of The Rising Sun feel while the music is more reminiscent of Mark Twain’s Mississippi river life, it is a very good marriage of the two. The final, and most powerful track is "Crying Me To Sleep." All I can say about this track is, this is what the Wallflowers were shooting for.

You can hear all of the tracks for yourself at Joe’s website, joepatricksmusic.com, as well as get the latest news and tour information. You really should see the site, it’s slick, plus you can purchase this EP and "From Me To You" an acoustic set recorded live in Oklahoma City. Once you hear the EP, you will definitely want to buy the live set, because it embodies the raw talent and feeling Joe pours into his music.
