Pinetop Seven
The Night's Bloom
Empyrean Records
The Midwestern answer to Omaha's Bright Eyes, Pinetop Seven are quite the rotating band themselves. For this particular album, The Night's Bloom (Empyrean, 2005), 15 artists were involved, creating over an hour of integral beauty from all sides of the world.

Track listing:

01 Night's Bloom
02 Easy Company
03 Fringe
04 Fire Burns at the Foot of Our Bed
05 Born Among the Born Again
06 Mouthful of Expensive Teeth
07 June
08 Page from the Desert
09 His Aging Miss Idaho
10 Witness
11 Made a Whisper Out of Me
12 Comedy Is Ended

Highly orchestral with a jazz angle, this band is a detailed spectrum of nearly overqualified musicians piecing their work together from a collage of influences. There seems to be a Pete Yorn and Idlewild charm here, making remarkable first impresssions.

There is an incredible amount of things occuring on this record, let alone one song ('Fringe'). Like freshly falling snow, each individual collides with another, building upon each other to create a majestic masterpiece, much bigger than all its unique parts.

The band, which reaches out quite greatly now, had its epicenter in Chicago in 1996, from the mind of Darren Richard, multi-instrumentalist. Ironically enough, the band has featured members of Bright Eyes, Wilco and other groups, mixing their newfound skills together, assuring an entirely different approach with each album. (The Night's Bloom is their sixth release.) And each track poses as a beautiful score to any musical's soundtrack, rich with ideas and enchanting stories.
