Wolfmother
Wolfmother
Interscope Records

If you enjoy 70's rock and roll, more specifically, if you like early Black Sabbath, you'll love Wolfmother. This trio from Sydney, Australia pumps out thick, fuzzy bass lines, combined with primal pounding of the drums to heavy as hell guitar riffs and dreamy fantasy lyrics that will make you want to buy a van and airbrush a barbarian in a loincloth on the side, slaying a dragon, while a naked Valkyrie clings to his leg. Yeah, it's that cool. Let's put it this way, these guys could cover “War Pigs” and give the original a run for its money.

Track listing:

01 Dimension
02 White Unicorn
03 Woman
04 Where Eagles Have Been
05 Apple Tree
06 Joker & The Thief
07 Colossal
08 Mind's Eye
09 Pyramid
10 Witchcraft
11 Tales
12 Love Train
13 Vagabond

This entire album even comes complete with power ballads, the flute in “Witchcraft” sounds like Jethro Tull, and “Vagabond” sounds like a highly more intense Donovan song. Though you will hear some Zeppelin, Sabbath, Beatles, White Stripes, Who, Donovan, and yes, maybe, Beach Boys, this band still manages to sound original. From the first track, which happens top start out like “Mutiny in Heaven,” to (my favorite) “Vagabond,” you will not even think of fast forwarding through one ass kicking second of this album. It takes the concept of what bands like Buck Cherry and Jet were shooting for and does it effortlessly. Wolfmother is a time machine, and I highly recommend it. It's a trip.
