The Blueskins
Word of Mouth
Domino
The musical influences of Jack White and Robert Plant unite in The Blueskins' debut album, Word of Mouth. The band consists of Ryan Spendlove (guitar/vocals), Richie Townsend (guitar), Maff Smith (bass), and Paul Brown (drums), who formed two years ago. This is garage rock tainted by the blues at its best. The Wakefield, England quartet is quickly strengthening their publicity, having released three singles -- "Change My Mind," "Stupid Ones." and "User Friendly" -- as well as the EP The Magic Road.

Track listing:

01 Bad Day
02 Stupid Oner
03 Change My Mind
04 Girl
05 Ellie Meadows
06 Love Boat
07 My Love Is Law
08 Go
09 Tell Me I'm Someone
10 Take Me Home
11 Magpie Blues

Every song presents a crisp, full-blown electric sound with driven, jagged riffs. And on opening track "Bad Day," raw guitar licks and a heavy drumming backbone set the guidelines for a strong presence that lasts throughout the album. A whirlwind tempo leads into the chorus, feeding additional energy to the song and serving as a heads-up for a promising record.

Spendlove's classic vocals are highly expressive, and combining them with the outspoken guitar work, Word of Mouth gives the best of both worlds -- vintage vocals backed by present-day sound. There are multiple key tracks, but the standouts are "Bad Day," "Change My Mind," the acoustic "Ellie Meadows." and "My Love Is Law." With a disc full of extremely lively and catchy songs, it's hard to avoid the urge to dance. Your feet will be tapping before you know it.
