How can a band that produced something so lovely as "up a tree" produce something so terribly bad as this? That's what I wanted to know when I struggled through this cd. After hearing "up a tree," I was very excited to get "The Snare" because I was sure that anything Looper did would be wonderful. However this was a dire mistake, were any of the songs catchy like every single one on "up a tree?" No.

Track listing:

01 The Snare
02 Sugarcane
03 New York snow
04 Peacock Johnson
05 Driving myself Crazy
06 Lover's Leap
07 Good Girls
08 She's a Knife
09 This Evil Love
10 Fucking Around

So much so that I can't even remember how any of them went after listening to the album twice, I only remember how dull my listening experience was, and how they might make a good soundtrack to a porno, or some art movie, art-porn. When I got the disc, I was absolutely sure that there must be two bands named "Looper" out there, as preposterous as that sounds, it seemed much more logical than the truth I discovered after investigating the situation. Like "up a tree," the songs on this were mainly electronic, but without the ability to get your feet tapping or make you stop and think about the things around you. I have no explanation because I have liked everything Stuart David (of Belle & Sebastian)-related up until now, maybe just a concept-album gone bad.
