Mon Electric Bijou
Songs Made from Plastic

"Songs Made from Plastic" is the debut album from Mon Electric Bijou (aka Martin Saz) straight out of the Montreal underground scene. Martin Saz/Mon Electric Bijou has some great influences, including Lou Reed, Gram Parsons, MC5, and The Kinks.

Track listing:

01 murder your love
02 being a rhino
03 blue on the blue beaumont
04 le zodiac
05 vietnam's cashews
06 the 50/50 spyglass
07 cold-blooded killer
08 mission control
09 love is the face
10 back to business
11 instant trust
12 primal technology
13 dial "R" for raw
14 mold to sold

The most evident is MC5, because Mon Electric Bijou's music runs thick with that basic loud, rock-n-roll sound. I suspect an unnamed influence is Guided By Voices, because the overall style of the music reminds me of a more heartfelt and sexy early GBV (plus he thanks Robert Pollard in the liner notes). This is a great album, it makes you want to dance like Elaine from Seinfeld. It is brimming with subtle sexual reminders that it is French-Canadian, one example of this is Martin Saz's delivery style which is similar to Jarvis Cocker's (of Pulp) sexy and dramatic style. I urge you to learn more about this band at www.monelectricbijou.com and then purchase the album from www.matchboxrecordings.co.uk.
